our story

about hyli
hyli means saltwater in Kernewek (Cornish). it's where we all come from and what we're made of. we think it's time to go back to basics.

we started with a problem. too many clothes, not enough good ones. too much choice, not enough ease. a wardrobe full of things that work for one occasion and nothing else.

we want to strip it back. clothes made from natural and deadstock fabrics, in limited runs, by makers we know by name. simple shapes that move with you. pieces you reach for without thinking, because they always work.

the sennen slip
it started with a sketch. my mother was a seamstress with a small shop in the 1990s - someone who made things because she knew how they should feel. this slip was one of those things. a simple shape, made well, designed for herself rather than a rail.

30 years later, having passed it down to her daughter, nothing quite like it existed. so we made it again. that's hyli. not chasing what's new. recovering what was good and making it better.

what we believe
life is busy. getting dressed shouldn't be that complicated. the right piece should work for all of it - the morning swim, the long lunch, the unplanned evening. it should feel good, last long, and be something you can trust.

we believe in clothes that you can pass down too.
